Refreshing Your Website – How Often? How Much?

So, you’ve had a great website designed and it’s helped your business over the last year or two.  But, you haven’t updated it at all.  Should you?  The answer is a resounding “yes.”  Your website, even if it’s a simple brochure for your company, is a representation of the business – and of you.  If your site never has anything new to say, then it seems that you don’t.

There are tons of benefits to updating your website.

1. First of all (and this is pretty obvious), when repeat visitors come to your site they will see something new.

2. Web design evolves and if your competitors’ sites stay up to date on trends and new information, your business may suffer. When compared to other options, your site may make your business look behind the curve.

3. The search engines want to see new content.  You will see your search rankings fall over time if you don’t add new content to your web site.

Friday Favorites – October 4th

Another week has flown by, but not without some drama.  The government shut down on Monday, the Dodgers won the first of their playoff games, and the Summer appears to be over.

Here are a few of my favorite art and design finds and some other things things that caught my eye or moved me this week.

Favorite Logos

La Sagrada Familia – A new time lapse video of the 2026 completion of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia went viral this week.  I saw the current version of this architectural masterpiece 2 years ago in Barcelona.  It’s truly breathtaking in every sense of the word.  The logo is so confident in its simplicity, as if everyone would recognize it for the iconic structure it is.  It’s also both modern and reverant in a way Gaudi would have approved of.  I know it’s been around for a while, but just love this logo design.

Great Advertising

The new Guinness ad, “Wheelchair Basketball” is hard to resist. Sentimentality seems easy, but is not… especially when advertising for a male demographic.  The beer’s not bad either.

Web Design

I’ve been excited about the new trend in both biking as transportation and our growing metro system in Los Angeles.  I stumbled website-design-los-angeles-bikeon this site for a “BIKING FRIENDLY AMERICA,” http://www.bikeleague.org, through twitter this week and went crazy for the design.  I love the blocks of primary colors, the photography and unique layout.  It makes you want to join the movement.

“Ghost” by Ingrid Michaelson and “Kids” by Mikky Ekko.

Favorite Fonts

Found some nice fonts on myfonts.com.  The handwriting script font, Capistrano.  It’s great for a signature style logo (with some refinement).  And then there’s Charcuterie… mmmm, a vintage sandwich-board font.
